I've been enjoying reading the news excerpts. Especially like the international news, given how little we get from papers.

according to the this post, FLOC is keeping workers from exploitation by recruiters, but according to the police in Monterrey a FLOC representative was recently murdered after extorting $4,500 from several workers to obtain guestworker visas from them.

I love that the office that worked on the case found the story here! It's so good for lawyers' morale when they are really working to increase justice, and not just because one party has money & there's a conflict.

This is a fascinating look at a remarkable newspaper in Russia. I didn't know that any free press still existed there, and I'm glad it does, even if the paper losing money. This explains the context of the female journalist who was killed because of her reporting on Chechnya. Good article.

This is an extremely valuable affirmative story because it tells us that this program was started in 1985, i.e., 22 years ago! All of us who want our good results to happen INSTANTANEOUSLY should take heart and courage from the fact that the folks who funded and staffed this program just KEPT AT IT through years of nonsuccess. I will remember it when engaged in my own issues and priorities! Thanks

This gentleman deserves every penny he gets for his great find. Imagine how rare it is to come upon a painting of this type. More importantly, his artistic judgment built over many years of experience led him to pay the $200 for a piece he knew nothing about but his gut instinct. Well done.

This story of Indian women taking control of their lives economically truly is good news, and I'm glad to read about this. These women not only benefit themsevles, but they are working for the betterment of their community. It's heartening to learn that collectives are still in operation and working so well. This story relates to another one I was told about recently in which it was found that when women in developing countries were loaned money, they used it to improve their family's health or welfare; when men received similar loans, the money was squandered away. Ah well.
