Young Americans are more likely than the general public to favor a government-run universal health care insurance system, an open-door policy on immigration and the legalization of gay marriage, according to a New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll. States take lead to cut carbon emissions
May 4, 2007More than 20 states are on track to cut about 108 million metric tons of carbon dioxide a year by 2020, thanks to successful efforts to produce more renewable energy. According to Jeff Deyette, an energy analyst with the Union of Concerned Scientists, “we’re seeing states like Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin that are meeting or exceeding their goals to build clean energy sources…” States have already lowered CO2 emissions by approximately 20 million metric tons owing to laws requiring that a certain portion of power come from renewable sources.
